Overview

About this trip

Paris is an exceptional destination for a mathematics-focused school trip — a treasure trove of architecture that embodies mathematical principles. The Louvre Pyramid is a case study in geometry, symmetry and proportion; the Eiffel Tower illustrates the mathematics of engineering and structural integrity; and the city's role as a financial hub gives practical context to currency and the mathematics of economics.

With figures like René Descartes and Pierre-Simon Laplace having walked its streets, and institutions from the Mathematical Society of France to Europe's largest science museum, students see the relevance of mathematics in everyday life and historical progress.

Cultural awareness

Customs & norms in France

A little cultural fluency goes a long way — these are the habits your hosts will notice and appreciate.

  • Always open with "bonjour" before asking anything — skipping the greeting is considered rude.
  • Meals are unhurried and phones stay off the table.
  • Dress neatly for restaurants and churches; casual sportswear stands out.
